The Kings are very pleased to officially announce the hiring of new assistant coach Harry Mahesh and new administrative assistant Charlie Black.
Born in Vanderhoof, Mahesh returns to his home province as the newest addition to the Kings bench joining head coach Brock Sawyer and fellow assistant Kyle Bodie. “I am very excited to be in Powell River this season” says Mahesh. “This is a team on the rise and I’m thankful for the opportunity that Chad and Brock have given me to help be apart of the success we hope to achieve here.”
Mahesh had a very successful junior career as a forward playing in 175 games over 3 seasons with the Winkler Flyers of the MJHL. After his time with the Flyers he would go on to play 6 years professionally split between the FHL, SPHL, and Swedish tier 2 league Hockeyettan. He would begin his coaching career in 2016 with the Banff Hockey Academy and since he has gone on to serve as an assistant coach in the MJHL with the Winkler Flyers and Selkirk Steelers and was a head coach with Pilot Mound Academy U17 boys & girls teams in Manitoba and the Winnipeg Freeze (MJHL) where he coached new King Ryder Ringor.
Although they are new co-workers, Mahesh and Sawyer are no strangers to each other as they played against one another in the SPHL and Mahesh is very eager coach alongside a former foe. “I’m excited to work with Brock as we have crossed paths in our hockey careers and share a lot of former mutual teammates. From everything I have heard this is going to be a great fit with him and Kyle on the bench this season.”
Charlie Black joins the Kings from the Surrey Eagles organization where he spent the last 4 seasons. He started as the P.A. announcer and DJ for the team during the 2018-19 campaign before working his way up to the Assistant G.M. role which he took over in 2020 where he would handle all marketing, merchandising, ticketing, and game day operations for the Eagles. Black will serve as the Administrative Assistant for the Kings which will have him oversee and lending a hand in numerous departments for the team such as merchandise, fan experience, and game operations. “I am absolutely ecstatic to be joining the Kings and coming to the amazing city of Powell River” expressed Black “From the moment I arrived, I fell in love. The community, the people, the scenery, the vibes; everything about qathet made me feel welcome. I am honored to be a part of the Kings organization and can’t wait to hit the ground running and get to work on what is sure to be a special and unforgettable season.” Despite his new role Black will be sticking to his roots with the Kings by deejaying home games this season plus he is also known for his signing voice and has sung many renditions of O’Canada at BCHL games through the years so Kings fans can expect to hear him singing the anthem on many occasions this season.
