Kings sign goaltender Matthias Smith

The Powell River Kings are proud to announce the signing of 2001 goaltender Matthias Smith.

Smith who hails from Courtenay, comes to us from the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, where he spent the last 2 seasons. His last full season was in 2019/20 where he played in 32 games and finished with a 14-12-1 record with a 3.55 GAA and a .889 sv% to go along with one shutout. Smith has not played a game so far this season.

The signing comes in the wake of both Kings goalies being bitten by the injury bug. Zak Brice left early in the 1st period against Alberni Valley last week after a collision in the crease, while Thomas Wardle left yesterdays game in Chilliwack after he re-aggravated a previous injury that he just recovered from. Timetables for their return are unclear at the moment.

Smith will join the team today in Nanaimo
